Introducing new heroes and villains to the LEGO Star Wars universe, the animated television series “LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures” will premiere MONDAY, JUNE 20 (10:00 a.m. EST) on Disney XD. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the action comedy series follows the Freemakers, a family of sibling scavengers who operate a salvage and repair shop in space. The series will also feature familiar characters and locations from the filmed Star Wars saga.

During the series’ premiere week, Disney XD will debut a new episode each day, beginning Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23. The first episode will also be available via Video on Demand (VOD) and the Disney XD app for users on tablets, phones, set top boxes and computers on Monday, June 20. The series stars three Freemaker siblings who scour the galaxy for useful debris that they use to build new vehicles of their own design. Rowan, the spunky Force-sensitive 12-year-old with a thirst for adventure, is voiced by newcomer Nicolas Cantu.

His quick-witted older sister, Kordi, voiced by Vanessa Lengies (“Glee”), manages the family business and is the glue that holds the family together. Ace pilot and charming rogue Zander, voiced by Eugene Byrd (“Arrow”), is the oldest brother and the family’s self-proclaimed starship connoisseur. Lucasfilm’s Matthew Wood voices R0-GR, also known as Roger, a refurbished battle droid from the Clone Wars adopted by the Freemaker family.

The humorous and action-packed tale of good versus evil begins when Rowan discovers the Kyber Saber, an ancient artifact with a powerful connection to the Force. Their world is turned upside down as they are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers learn the true value of what it means to be a family.

In addition to the show, children can explore two new construction sets based on the Freemakers and their adventures (on shelves in June – perfect timing to build alongside the show), and explore the new LEGO® Star Wars™ Force  Builder app (available now) to keep inspiring their building and storytelling adventures.  LEGO Star Wars: The Force Builder app allows anyone to create their own “ugly.” Allowing iPhone and Android users the ability to prototype unique builds, offering thousands of configurations to inform and inspire your own real-life LEGO builds!

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Via Theverge.com:
The Lego Star Wars series has a rich history that extends beyond the source material — an interpretation of the two trilogies that stays both stays true to the films while injecting innumerable visual gags. For its upcoming take on The Force Awakens, the first new Lego Star Wars game since 2011, developer TT Games is trying something new. For starters, the game will explore what happened off-screen, with seven of the games’ 18 “story levels” taking place in the lead-up to Episode VII. How did C-3PO get his red replacement arm? You can read the comic to find out, or you can experience yourself through digital Lego bricks.

The other big change is the addition of voicework from the original cast — both lines from the movie as well new voicework from “key talent” like Daisy Ridley. It’s not a first for the Lego series, but Lego Star Wars has long relied on silent characters pantomiming the familiar scenes.

Last week at GDC, we had a chance to spend some time playing the new Lego Star Wars entry. While there are a few key additions that add variety to the game — notably, a cover system for blaster battles, arena-based dogfighting at key moments, and the chance to build multiple objects out of the same pile of Lego bricks — overall, the Lego Star Wars experience has been preserved.

We also had a chance to sit down with lead story designer Graham Goring to talk about some of the narrative changes for the new title. The interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

What was the decision to include voices in the game. This is a first for Lego Star Wars, yes?

Goring: Well, to the Lego Star Wars series, absolutely, we’ve never had voices. The first games [we did] with voices were Batman 2 and Lego City Undercover.

It’s just the case that we are always trying to do something a bit new with our games. Lego City Undercover was a game where we were telling an original story. Obviously, when you know a film, you can sort of fill in [what the actors are] saying there. With an original story you can’t do that. So we had to do it for that game. And then it just seemed silly to go back from that. It just stuck.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens NEW Gameplay Trailer Unveiled

For the first time, the same pile of LEGO bricks can be used in multiple ways, with the player building and re-building different objects for different purposes.
Flight Gameplay – Experience the thrill of high-speed, action-packed flight gameplay like never before, piloting iconic vehicles (including the legendary Millennium Falcon) through arena-based battles and dogfights in space.

Lego Full-Year Sales Boosted By Demand From Star Wars Falcon Fans

Via bbcnews.com:

The eruption of Star Wars mania helped send Lego’s sales up 25% last year, led by sales of the Millennium Falcon.
The Danish-maker of the perennially popular plastic bricks said the Star Wars set was one its best-selling products in 2015.
It was topped only by sales of Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle from the Disney film Frozen.
Revenue for the year rose to DKr35.7bn (£3.72bn) from DKr28.5bn in 2014 on pre-tax profit up 29% at DKr12.1bn.
Lego said it had achieved sales growth across the majority of its regions, though it said that while most of the Asian toy markets reported solid growth, it has slowed compared with more recent periods.
John Goodwin, chief financial officer of Lego, told the BBC that the Chinese market continued to generate sales: “Domestically we are still seeing a continual very strong growth and importantly for us the aspiring middle class within China continues to grow, and they are showing a great degree of interest in these great play materials that we think bring a high degree of creativity to those children.
“We continue to be very excited and bullish about the Chinese market.”
The new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, was released towards the end of 2015 and its box office takings have so far reached $1.9bn (£1.3bn) worldwide.
