After the release of Return of the Jedi in 1983, the fate of the Star Wars universe wasn’t certain. Sure, there were Ewok live-action films and some so-so cartoons, but not much else was happening (aside from making stories during playtime with Kenner’s action figures and play sets). That changed with the release of West End Games’ Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game in 1987. The game book and source book opened new doors and allowed fans to join the galaxy far, far away in an immersive way that involved rolling a whole lot of D6s.

The Roleplaying Game evolved and expanded from 1987 until the late ’90s; it was a gateway RPG for a whole squadron of fans. It’s coming back for a special 30th anniversary edition!
