Newfound Spiders Named for Star Wars Villains

Via LifeScience.com:

White-armored Stormtroopers in the “Star Wars” movies are practically identical and nearly impossible to tell apart. That uncanny similarity recently inspired a team of scientists who had discovered a new spider genus; the arachnids were so alike each other in size and markings that the researchers named them after the helmeted troops, calling the creatures Stormtropis.

These eight-legged Stormtroopers belong to a family dubbed bald-legged spiders, which are native to South America and Central America.

DESIGNING STAR WARS: STAR WARS RESISTANCE

Via StarWars.com:

The look of Star Wars is unlike anything else in popular culture. Step back in time to explore the history and philosophy behind the concepts that define the galaxy far, far away in Designing Star Wars.

In Star Wars, nothing’s ever really gone. More than 40 years after the first film, creators routinely go back to those earliest drawing boards for inspiration. And oftentimes, among the stacks of unused concept art and sketches, they find models and muses for the next generation of Star Wars storytelling.

In creating the new anime-inspired look of Star Wars Resistance, Art Director Amy Beth Christenson turned a forgotten Ewok ancestor into a bird-like business partner, resurrected an impossible droid, and kitbashed pieces of some of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy into something new and unique. “We have a tradition of going back and looking at what didn’t make it,” Christenson says, scouring through the old Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, and Nilo Rodis-Jamero concepts.

Resistance Finally Showed Us the Hero We’ve Been Waiting to See?

Via io9.gizmodo.com (Spoilers After The Click If You Are Not Current on the Show):

It took some time, but Star Wars Resistance finally gave us the hero we’d all been waiting for. And his name is Kazuda Xiono.  After a whole season of Kaz being a rather polarizing character, what with his goofy demeanor and penchant for idiocy (as well as ace flying and heroics), the new episode, “Descent,” finally showed him reaching his potential in a way that was as thrilling as anything we’ve seen on the show so far.

Commander Cody Sixth Scale Figure by Hot Toys

Clone Commander Cody, also known as unit 2224, was a loyal clone trooper serving the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Cody was often under the command of General Obi-Wan Kenobi, leading Ghost Squadron, and served with him and Anakin Skywalker at Geonosis, Christophsis and during a nearly disastrous campaign on Cato Neimoidia.

Cody developed a close and easygoing camaraderie with Kenobi, easily exchanging dry jokes with his Jedi General. This continued through to their mission to Utapau, to route out the entrenched Separatists forces commanded by General Grievous.

Cody was ultimately subservient to the orders of the Republic, and when Order 66 was enacted — branding Kenobi an enemy of the state — Cody willingly carried out the command to open fire on his former friend.

Sideshow and Hot Toys officially introduce the sixth scale Commander Cody Star Wars collectible figure from Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith!

Skillfully created based on the appearance of Clone Commander Cody in the movie, the sixth scale collectible figure features a newly developed head sculpt with amazing likeness, a meticulously crafted Clone Trooper armor and helmet with weathering effects, different styles of blasters, interchangeable right arm with LED light-up hologram projector, a jetpack, a variety of miniature hologram figures, and a sand-themed figure base.

Hamill Aware of the Connection Between History’s Knightfall and Star Wars

Via www.thewrap.com:

When Mark Hamill joined Season 2 of History’s “Knightfall,” he swapped his long-held lightsaber for a Medieval sword. But he didn’t switch completely from one world to another, seeing as the themes in the drama series are similar to those explored in “Star Wars.”

And yes, Hamill is aware that the Knights Templar — the group he’s entering for the Tom Cullen-led drama — were part of what inspired George Lucas’ Jedi — a group he’s all too familiar with due to his decades of playing Luke Skywalker in the franchise.

Hamill was asked during the Television Critics Association press tour Sunday if the “connection” between the Knights Templar and the Jedi created “any hesitancy for you in taking on this role or is that something you thought of at all.”

“Not until after I accepted. I didn’t really think it through,” Hamill joked.

“The truth of the matter is that I’m sure George drew from- George drew from so many different inspirations of his own, both in the movies and in literature,” Hamill continued, seated alongside Cullen and new showrunner Aaron Helbing. “He was probably thinking more of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, because it was more idealized and glamorous, certainly, than the Templar knights. But there’s no question that his inspiration was rooted partially in this mythology.”

EA “Fully Committed” To Star Wars Games

Via gamespot.com:

Following a report that Electronic Arts had canceled the open-world Star Wars game in development at EA Vancouver, the publisher has finally responded with a statement. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer any real insight, though tellingly it does nothing to dispel what Kotaku’s story laid out earlier this week.

“There’s been speculation overnight about one of our Star Wars projects. As a natural part of the creative process, the great work by our team in Vancouver continues and will evolve into future Star Wars content and games,” the company said in a statement shared with GameSpot. “We’re fully committed to making more Star Wars games, we’re very excited about Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order from Respawn, and we’ll share more about our new projects when the time is right.”

Disney’s Acquisition of Fox Finalized?

Via EE News:

Today, Twenty-First Century Fox shareholders got quite a surprise. Their stock election letter came with The Walt Disney Company letterhead (see below). This comes after initial reports that Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox was near the end, followed by weeks of media silence and no concrete date.

Last year, Disney received conditional approvals from both the European Union and U.S. regulators and was waiting from approvals from Brazil and other countries. Back in July 2018, shareholders from both companies approved all proposals related to the acquisition, but neither company gave a solid date for the close. Disney CEO Bob Iger previously stated that “it could take up to 12 months for the acquisition to close,” while President of Fox Peter Rice said to employees, “The company will be logistically ready to close on Jan. 1.”

Based on the below shareholder letter, it looks like earlier speculation about the January 1, 2019, date was more in line with the actual acquisition timeline. The Disney-Fox acquisition marks an incredible shift in the entertainment industry and there will definitely be more news about it in the coming months. Stay tuned.
