Star Wars Producers Make €10,000 Donation To Kerry Lifeboat Crew

Via Irishmirror.ie:

The producers of Star Wars have shown they are a force to be reckoned with after making a €10,000 donation to a Kerry lifeboat crew.

Just days before Star Wars finished filming scenes for Episode VIII on Skellig Michael the producers contacted crew members of Valentia Lifeboat and said they wanted to make a donation.

The operations manager Richard Foran confirmed to Kerry’s Eye newspaper that the donation was made three weeks ago after scenes for the eagerly awaited sci-fi flick had finished.

Mr Foran, who is operations manager with the Valentia Lifeboat said they were overwhelmed by the donation.

He said: “It was a complete surprise. But I think the lifeboat came to their minds because of what they were doing.”

He said the filming on Skellig each year involved a lot of sea travel in conditions that are not easy, and often in choppy seas.

Mr Foran, who like all 22 crew on the RNLI lifeboat are volunteers, said they do not receive money from the State and are totally dependant on donations for diesel for their boat and other equipment.

He said: “It wasn’t just talk. The money is in the bank.

“We suggested setting up a photo shoot on the life boat and such but they declined, they didn’t want any publicity. They simply wanted to make a donation.”
