STEVEN SPIELBERG SAYS HE WILL NEVER DIRECT A STAR WARS MOVIE

Via Ign.com:

Despite being a big fan of Star Wars, Steven Spielberg will never direct a Star Wars film.

It’s just not his genre, the director said at a press event for his upcoming Disney film The BFG. “It’s certainly my buddy’s, the Thomas Edison of science fiction, George Lucas, who created the entire series,” Spielberg said, as reported by the Toronto Sun. “But that was never for me. I’m just a fan; I’m just with everybody else in the audience watching them.”

Spielberg has had an influence on the Star Wars films, however. The legendary director suggested J.J. Abrams direct Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and reportedly discovered Alden Ehrenreich—who’ll play young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars solo film—at a bat mitzvah.
