Disney Could Lose In A Box Office Battle Between ‘Star Wars’ And ‘Aquaman 2’

As we see whether Avengers: Endgame has enough gas in the tank to muscle past the unadjusted $2.788 billion global cume of James Cameron’s Avatar, we should note that it’s not as surefire a prospect as I presumed last week. The drop this weekend, especially overseas, was harsh, to say the least, and if some of that is due to Detective Pikachu providing some competition, then we should again note that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker won’t have that issue.

While Star Wars 7 opens one week after Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and concurrently with Cats, the only post-debut/Christmas weekend competition will be Blue Sky’s Spies in Disguise, which (since Disney now owns Fox) is a Walt Disney release.
