Star Wars: Han Solo Will Be “Completely Different” From Rogue One

Via Comicbook.com:

The Star Wars franchise is an ever-growing beast, and Lucasfilm has no plans to stop the creature from growing. This year, the eighth saga feature will make its debut when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in December. And, earlier this year, shooting began on Lucasfilm’s second Star Wars solo flick following the commercial success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Thanks to Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Han Solo will be getting his own standalone film next May. Many details about the film are being kept on the down-low, but a few updates have been given here and there about the flick. Now, the director of Rogue One is speaking about the upcoming feature, and Gareth Edwards admits he’s a jealous of how well the project is going.

Recently, the director attended the Empire Film Awards where he sat down for a short interview. It was there that Edwards said the Han Solo spin-off is very different from his Rogue One take.

“They’re amazing filmmakers. I’m very excited about what they do,” Edwards said about the director duo. “It’ll be a completely different film to what we did. I think they’ve got the hardest task, I think, out of all the films that I heard about that one is probably the greatest challenge and they’re gonna knock it out of the park, but I wouldn’t have had the balls to do that.”

“They’ve got really good taste. You glimpse things – you try not to – as you’re going about your business, but you see stuff. And everything I saw, I got really jealous about it.”

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is filming now under directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
