Star Wars Last Jedi Gets Four Oscars Nominations

Via Express.co.uk:

The eighth episode in the saga garnered attention in a string of technical categories, with one for John Williams in Best Original Score.

That’s one less than the five received by Episode 7: The Force Awakens two years ago (the one missing this time is Film Editing), and two more than Rogue One in 2017.

Aside from Original Score, The Last Jedi is up for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.

The shortlists for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing are identical, and the movie faces Baby Driver, Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk and The Shape of Water in both cases.

For Original Score, it’s up against Dunkirk, Phantom Thread, The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

In Visual Effects, the other competitors are Blade Runner 2049, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Kong: Skull Island and War for the Planet of the Apes.

The latter film, of course, also starred Andy Serkis – who played Snoke in Last Jedi.

It was reported late last year that the blockbuster was being submitted for consideration in most categories, although – as with many films of its kind – there was very little expectation that stars such as Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley et al would be nominated.

The Oscars will take place on March 4.
