Review: Imperial Probe Droid Sixth Scale Figure by Sideshow Collectibles

Posted on by

Now shipping from Sideshow Collectibles is the Imperial Probe Droid Sixth Scale Figure! Some collectors will remember the previous version with the Hoth Base from 2014. That  version has been long sold out, so if you missed it then, now is the time to grab it (sans the Hoth add on) before it sells out again!  I will dig in to all the details shortly, but this is a beast and a must have piece in your collection! From the articulation to the weathered deco and lights, this guy has it all, and it’s HUGE (as it should be).

First, we take a look at the box and how it comes packaged, this guy is not hard to assemble but, take it slow as there are tons of little working pieces on the articulated legs.  Each leg is labeled so just match up the numbers and you are good to go. There is a very easy to follow guide included!

This has sounds and lights, but you first need to remove two small strips before the batteries will be usable.  Below are close ups of each section where you need to remove these strips.  Also, you will see a small ON/OFF molded to the inside of the body, but there is NOT a switch there, the button to operate the light is on the exterior top. I spent a solid 10 minutes trying to figure out if my sample was missing a switch or broken before I realized it was not there. My guess is maybe that was the intent to have a switch in there, but it was later moved to the exterior.

Once you have all that done, you just snap it all back together and pose it as you wish.  There are a ton of possibilities, use you imagination. Next, we will take a look at the light up eye.  You get two different lights, the white/blue and the yellow/orange.  The first one is mega bright and lights up a dark room easily, while the yellow/orange is dimmer.  Both worked well, one click for white, another click for yellow, third click is off.

It only has one sound, but it is an iconic one. Just press the button on the side and you’ll hear the  garbled transmission sound effects just as they were in the movie.  You can hear it below in a short clip we uploaded to Instagram when it arrived.

You can spin the head around 360 degrees, it stands at 17″ H (431.8mm) x 7.5″ W (190.5mm) x 7.5″ L (190.5m).  The Imperial Probe Droid Sixth Scale Figure by Sideshow Collectibles is a great piece, it has an awesome paint application, great weathering and articulation. There are also 2 extending antennas that you can extend as you wish or mix it up and keep one short and one long! The display options on this are diverse.

We want to thank Sideshow Collectibles for providing this sample to us to review, you can click here to add him to your collection today

Review: Chirrut Îmwe (Deluxe Version) Sixth Scale Figure by Hot Toys

Posted on by

The Sixth Scale Figure by Hot Toys Chirrut Îmwe (Deluxe Version) is set to ship in May from Sideshow, and we have our figure in hand right now to share with you! First, some information from Sideshow about this figure:

“I fear nothing. All is as the Force wills it.”

Fans worldwide are stoked about a new adventure in a galaxy far, far away – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story! One of the most exciting new characters introduced in this epic film is Chirrut Îmwe, a blind warrior monk from Jedha. Chirrut believes all living things are connected through the Force, and his profound spirituality makes him a formidable warrior crucial to the Rebels’ desperate attempt to steal the plans of the Empire’s devastating super-weapon – the Death Star.

In celebration of the famed Hong Kong actor and martial artist Donnie Yen starring as the spiritual warrior Chirrut, Hot Toys is excited to present a special Deluxe version of the sixth scale Chirrut Îmwe only available in selected markets. This extremely life-like collectible figure is specially crafted based on the character’s appearance in the film, featuring a newly developed head sculpt, a meticulously tailored costume, detailed weapons, and accessories including a staff and a crossbow. This Deluxe Version will exclusively include a diorama figure base with a Stormtrooper helmet and a special package design inspired by traditional Asian art!

It is time to #GoRogue and expand your Star Wars Hot Toys collection!

Jumping right in, the box is a work of art, the interior artwork and the latch are beautiful!  The specially crafted package design is inspired by traditional Asian art and really pops!

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

The Chirrut Îmwe Sixth Scale Collectible Figure specially features:

  • An authentic and detailed likeness of Donnie Yen as Chirrut Îmwe in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
  • Movie-accurate facial expression with detailed skin texture
  • Approximately 29 cm tall
  • Body with over 30 points of articulation
  • Nine (9) pieces of interchangeable hands including:
    – One (1) pair of fists
    – One (1) pair of open hands
    – One (1) pair of hands for holding staff
    – One (1) pair of hands for holding crossbow
    – One (1) left hand for fighting gestures
  • Each head sculpt is specially hand-painted

Pictures do not do this justice! At every single angle this is Donnie Yen! I repeat this is a 1/6th scale Donnie Yen in your home! I wondered how the eyes would look in person and as usual, Hot Toys nailed it.  The costume is perfect down to each and every stitch. And with with over 30 points of articulation, you can pose him in any position you would like with ease, just like he battled in the movie!

The Deluxe Version exclusively has an awesome diorama figure base with a Stormtrooper helmet (The helmet can be displayed anywhere on the base, or around it, but can’t be put on the head).  I did have a little trouble getting the figure stand to fit into the base, it takes a little bit of wiggle and elbow grease. He also stands fine without it.  I think the rubber of the rocks extends a little too far, but the base and helmet really makes this figure so if you can, I would suggest getting the deluxe version.

The figure sells for $244.99 and can be pre-ordered right now at this link.  We would like to thank Sideshow for providing this early review sample to share with our readers, this is a welcome addition to the collection!

HEROINES OF STAR WARS + FORCES OF DESTINY PANEL!

Moderated by Amy Ratcliffe (host of “Lattes with Leia” podcast), fans in attendance enjoyed a conversation about strong female characters central to the Star Wars universe and how they have inspired generations of fans; panelists included: Dave Filioni (executive producer Star Wars Rebels), Ashley Eckstein (“Ahsoka Tano”), Tiya Sircar (“Sabine Wren”) and surprise guest Daisy Ridley (“Rey”). The three actresses were surprised on stage with the reveal of their new Adventure Figures by Hasbro from the just-announced Star Wars Forces of Destiny. As part of the reveal, fans were treated to a sneak peek at the first animated Forces of Destiny short, which will launch on Disney YouTube in July 2017.

Star Wars Forces of Destiny is new initiative celebrating the inspiring stories of iconic heroes from across the Star Wars universe. An original micro-series of animated shorts (each 2-3 minutes in length) will explore exciting, all new adventures of key characters including Rey, Jyn Erso, Sabine Wren, Princess Leia, Ahsoka Tano and others, ahead of books and a TV special later in the year. The stories will also be supported by a line of toys from Hasbro, including new ‘Adventure Figures’ – a fusion between traditional dolls and action figures, creating a whole new way to play Star Wars.
